My Refuge

The door closes, I’m stuck inside
The walls blank, the floor bare
There’s no where for me to hide.  
They’ve got me pinned, this isn’t fair.

The pain that boils through my veins
Surges through my heart
Though after all, we’re to blame
How could we ever be apart?

Despite the lashing and painful blows
It is no match for my thoughts of you
With each strike, imagination flows
You can make the most gray of skies turn blue.  

It’s eternity when I’m with you again.  
I feel your arms close around me.
Safety is at my fingertips, my lifelong friend.
Don’t let me be caught, I want to be free.  

“I’ve got you my darling,” your lips translate
But do you think they can be sincere?  
Can you always protect me from unknown fate?  
At least there is a way for me to escape my fear.
